Milone & MacBroom, through our on-call consulting contract with the City of Springfield, is in the process of completing the detailed design for the renovation of the entire neighborhood park complex. The renovation design includes new tennis courts, new basketball court, new multi-use natural grass recreational field, new softball/little league diamond, sensory walking trails, additional parking, and numerous other park amenities.
Early in 2014, Milone & MacBroom assisted the City’s Park & Recreation Department in completing Balliet Park Master Plan, a park renovation plan that was a key element in the preparation of several successful grant applications that secured the necessary design and construction funding.
The improvements will be funded through a several grants including a $400,0000 PARC (Parkland Acquisition & Renovations for Communities Grant, a $200,000 CDBG (Community Development Block Grant), and a $200,000 OCBG (Our Common Backyard Grant). Due to extreme time constraints of the Our Common Backyards Grant, Milone & MacBroom was asked to prepare complete construction drawings and bid documents within one month. We completed the task and provided periodic construction observations services through the construction of a 3,600 square foot spray pad which will be open for use this Summer.
