Milone & MacBroom conducted a master plan study for the Weedsport Speedway at the former Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Brutus, New York. A conceptual master plan of the speedway included the race track venue area, relocation of an on-site Drivers Independent Race Tracks (DIRT Motorsports) museum, new race team headquarters for Heinke-Baldwin Racing, and garages. The firm assisted in the site selection for the grandstands that include 3,500 spectator seats, a race control tower, and two hospitality towers.
In order to promote the Weedsport Speedway as a destination dirt track facility, the main ticket sales and concession buildings were demolished to make way for major renovations to the pavilion. Milone & MacBroom assisted the owner in developing layout and elevation plans to help guide the construction effort and promote the facility’s ability to serve guests at a premiere level. This effort included acquiring approvals for a subsurface sewage disposal system for issuance of a food service permit. The firm served as a liaison between consultants and vendors in order to streamline the selection, ordering, and delivery processes to meet a demanding timeline for scheduled events.
The firm was also involved in the coordination efforts associated with burying the existing primary electric on-site and installing new CAT V, fiber optic and coaxial cabling services to critical areas within the venue. This included lighting improvements to enhance the race track during televised events, as well as provide primary and ambient lighting for the featured pavilion space. These infrastructure improvements were required in order to support a closed television networking system and allow for live video-streaming of major events. In addition, Milone & MacBroom designed the foundation and utility improvements necessary to support the installation of a new playground for the facility.
