  • The River Book:  (CT DEP Bulletin 28; 241 pgs; Hard Cover -1998) Authored by Mr. James MacBroom, co-founder and Senior Vice President of Milone & MacBroom, Inc.  this educational manual was published to help guide local communities and design professionals in understanding riverine functions and establishing appropriate management strategies.  James MacBroom and the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection were awarded the “Tom Lee Award for Excellence” from the Association of State Floodplain Managers for The River Book.
  • Handbook of Water Sensitive Planning and Design: (Lewis Publishers, CRC Press LLC, 2000)  Mr. James MacBroom, co-founder and Senior Vice President of Milone & MacBroom, Inc. was a contributing author to this book, chapter “River Restoration Planning.”
  • Evaluation of Gravel Bed Channels after Dam Removals: (Geomorphology 71; pgs 245-262; 2005) Mr. James MacBroom, co-founder and Senior Vice President of Milone & MacBroom, Inc.  co-author.
  • National Center for Earth Dynamics: (2007) Mr. James MacBroom, co-founder and Senior Vice President of Milone & MacBroom, Inc.  authored  the article “Northeastern Stream Restoration” within the newsletter
  • Overreacting to Eminent Domain: Hartford Courant article (11/18/07) authored by Michael T. Looney, AICP, Milone & MacBroom, Inc.
  • Evaluation of the Environmental Effects of Synthetic Turf Athletic:  (December 2008) Mr. Vincent McDermott, FASLA, Senior VP and Mr. Scott Bristol, LEP of Milone & MacBroom, Inc. co-authored several papers/reports that summarized the analysis of a variety of in-situ tests conducted on synthetic athletic fields in Connecticut in an attempt to contribute to the discussion regarding potential risks to the environment and human health associated with such facilities, laboratory tests at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) raised a number of questions concerning the safety of such fields. As a company that advises clients and designs athletic fields using both natural grass and synthetic surfaces, Milone & MacBroom, Inc. believed that it would be prudent to undertake some first-hand observations and to become more confident that published literature was applicable to synthetic surfaces in the northeast.

  • Healing Garden Design: Planning and Collaboration are Keys to Creating a Beautiful Healing Garden: (Planetalk – A Planetree Newsletter -April 2009) Mark Arigoni, Associate with Milone & MacBroom, Inc. and Rachel Cotter, Planetree Visionary Design Advisory Committee co-authored this article aimed at explaining the importance of early collaboration of the essential design team, contractors and end-users.
