MMI Assisted in Briggsville Dam Removal in Clarksburg MA
1/01/2011
The Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration retained Milone & MacBroom Inc. services to conduct an assessment of the Briggsville Dam located in Clarksburg, MA, as well as to perform an analysis to consider bridge scour and sediment transport. The dam across the Hoosic River was no longer in use and had significant hazard potential. The preliminary design and findings completed by MMI indicated that dam removal was necessary.
The 15 foot high and 145 foot long dam was removed in December to improve wildlife habitat, restore natural river functions, eliminate the threat of dam failure to the downstream properties, and reducing the risk of upstream flooding.
