Increased Opportunities for Hazard Mitigation Project Grants from FEMA

7/19/2011

Several national mitigation grant programs are typically available each year for municipalities to pursue funding for hazard mitigation projects such as elevations and acquisitions of flood prone buildings, culvert upgrades, stormwater system upgrades, wet and dry floodproofing of critical facilities, and retrofits to structures to handle strong winds from hurricanes and tropical storms.  With recent disaster declarations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, and New York, communities in these states have additional opportunities for pursuing mitigation project grants.  Municipalities must posses a FEMA-approved hazard mitigation plan in order to be eligible for receiving mitigation grants. Be sure to check state websites for additional information as well as the application details.  For further information or questions, please contact David Murphy, P.E.
